The reason all of these people want EU labour is not necessarily because it’s marginally cheaper per hour in many cases… but it’s also the way in which they can manipulate and take advantage of those workers. Dropping shifts on them last minute, taking them away, overtime done with no extra pay… stuff that they couldn’t get away with with a British national most of the time.

Spot on. They often have a strong work ethic and so are easily taken advantage of.

they will eventually have to pay higher wages...and then the cost of getting a pint or feed will increase to compensate...
It's simple to remedy if someone has the bollox to implement it. The minimum wage is increased enough and benefits lowered to balance. The workshy would be more attracted to work as a positive way forward rather than sitting on their arses. The cost should not be allowed to be passed onto consumers by law during the transition. Hopefully the next generation will adopt a positive work ethic. This generation is lost though unfortunately. They have been force fed that lethargy is a good thing and they can all be reality stars etc.

I’ve heard many an argument saying that labour costs will continue to be squeezed and squeezed and squeezed in some sectors until they become automated. And that is because of continual pressure of shareholders to see constant and fast levels of growth on their investment. When profits aren’t hitting the heights, then costs start to be cut.

There comes a point where that begins to fall apart. When that will happen I’m not sure. However, being a Londoner I know full well and sense that something bad is round the corner for us within the next decade or so. The cost of living can only keep rising so much whilst our wages simply do not and will not keep up with it - something has to give.

I have long since thought the minimum wage has done nothing to improve the lot of the low paid.
Far from being the "minimum" wage, it is almost universally accepted as the "standard" wage across millions of low skilled jobs.
Employers do not need to offer anything more to compete to attract low skilled workers because all their competitors are paying exactly the same wage.
The working class got properly conned with that trick.

Labour politicians should sell their houses and take a 50% wage cut.and give it all to their friends, cunts who have come to Britain illegally.
Blah blah blah ....maybe some of the Tory doners who got contracts should give their illegal gotten gains and give it to the poor ....oh...sorry that's not the Tory way ....rich get richer on the back of the poor ..and maybe if Thatcher didn't sell off all the council houses there would be homes for everyone...if your goverment stopped the illegals from crossing the channel over the last 10 years then we would not have a problem....can't blame anyone else but those in power but you will spin it ....funny that

More council homes would be more homes for the illegals.

I'd like to see some facts that Thatcher sold off ALL the council housing, i've seen and heard this lefty driven myth umpteen times but no credible evidence to back it up. It's almost like Labour and it's sheep like followers are making things up as they go. Keep telling the same lie and hope that eventually it becomes true!

What Phil and his ilk won't tell you is that right to buy was initially the brainchild of labour and had it won the 1959 general election it would have been indeed labour selling off ALL of the council housing. They are doing this now and have been doing so in London for the past 20 years, at least.

Another myth that Phil keeps pushing is that all council housing is occupied by the forriners that he hates. What's the truth Phil, did Thatcher sell off ALL council housing? if so, how can it be all full of those forriners that you hate? make your mind up fella, you are as confused and lost as your leader! Out of interest, what is labours and Starmers policy for social housing? perhaps Phil can tell us all seeing as he votes for them.

When the right to buy was made easier under Thatcher the people buying were the ones who had lived there for years and brought up their family, so it made sense after paying rent for years to finally own the 'family home'.
Under Labour they made it even easier in that you only had to live there for three years to get a generous discount and buy your home then five years later sell up making a tidy packet.
