During RAF basic training we had to learn all the different aircraft. All the recruits that had been Air Cadets loved it. Some even claimed to be able to tell by engine sound.

One said he had flown to every airport in the civilised world using pretty much every type of plane - on a simulator!! I asked if he even did long haul ‘flights’ - yes, was his reply. He loved them because he could relax and drink hot chocolate as he cruised along. It was in actual real time!!!??!! How fucking weird is that... Sitting on a computer ‘flying’ a plane 13 hours to LA, where nothing really happens!!
