Just Back v Cardiff on iFlop

A point won but really two points lost.

We started brightly but that early sparkle soon disappeared. They had other ideas. They took control of the game in the middle of the park and pushed us back. Despite having the lions share of possession they really didn't threaten us much at all. I cannot recall a save that Bart had to make. We pushed the ball around but there was a lack of urgency in our play. By the same token they lacked a bit of quality in the final third and the first half was just meandering along with them looking the more likely to score. Then we had a short spell of decent play and took the lead. A good ball to Jed on the right saw him play it back inside. It got forward to Williams who scooped it into the box from 35 yards. The keeper didn't quite know what to do and ended up doing nothing and getting caught in no mans land, Smith saw his error and nodded it calmly to his right and into the net for 1-0. To say the goal was against the run of play would be an understatement. We perked up a little and so did they but they couldn't get their attacking game going and the half finished with us in the lead.

The second half was a whole different story. They sensed that if they could just get going then we could be there for the taking, They pressed us back and we had to weather some storms. A decent cross from their LWB Bennett found Moore and his header was expertly tipped over by Bart who got a bash on the head from the post for his trouble. Bennett went down on the left after an innocuous challenge and struggled for a couple of minutes before Molly came on to replace him. He played wide left and hit a peach of a cross which evaded everybody and found its' way to Jed on the right. His dinked cross found Ben 8 yards out with a free header but he put it over. They made a couple of attacking subs and poured forward to get an equaliser. We defended well for a few minutes and with ten to go it looked as if we might get all three points. Then Molly made the most dreadful pass inside from the left which fell straight to one of their mid fielder's feet. He played a lovely ball to the inside right position, Moore took it in his stride and slotted it past Bart. They had the wind in their sails and pushed forward with purpose. We took off a cream crackered Ben and Smith and brought on Polly and Bod. They pressed forward and it really did seem like a matter of time. Bart made two top class saves and Murray headed one off the line as the minutes ticked on. Then we had a glorious chance to win it. A good ball inside from Jed to the left found Bod in space. He took it forward, the keeper came out to narrow the angle but he hit it wide. There is no doubt in my mind that Bod is a dud. The miss was awful. They pressed forward but the ref blew to end the game 1-1.

Bart could do little with their goal but made at least three top drawer saves and got my MOM. Leonard at RB was a partial success but he had his work cut out trying to defend their left. Hutch was solid and so was Cooper and Murray was his ever dependable self whether at LB or in the back three. Woods was decent and so was Williams and his cool pass into their box for our goal was class. Jed was like the curate's egg, good in parts and Bennett had lots of quiet periods so it was not his best game Ben was busy and useful but should have made more of his one decent chance. Smith was ponderous but took his goal well. Bod was a dud but Polly showed promise but hardly had time to shine.

A better second half and but for Molly's dreadful pass and Bod's shocking miss we would have won it. Still, a point was better than no points but if we had been there we would have come away thinking we were lucky

Thanks Silver as always a great summary , you should get paid to watch games or councelling ,a crowd today would of got us 3 pts but also some boos , we are in a good position but must be the worst team in this lge for excitement and skill on show ,wholesale changes needed next summer.

Thanks for your take on the game, but I can't help thinking if we had been there the players and management would have been left in no doubt what the fans felt. Think the swear box would have taken more money than children in need. Apart from 2 games we have been mediocre at the very best this season, and we are still not badly positioned in the league, it just goes to show how poor the championship is this year. I think if GR does not pull his finger out and get us playing football and attacking football at that, we are going to be saying 1pt gained, 2pts lost for the rest of the season. Today was appalling, Woods is wasted playing so deep, Malone and Bod just summed it all up.
Not having a settled team isn't helping just makes everything disjointed.
Time for Rowett to get his head out of his arse and get us playing. Just like watching 2 Harris teams today, which says it all really.

If this game does not ring alarm bells in GR8 mind that nothing will .....still a majority of our passing ,crossing is schoolboy level...Cardiff like many teams we have played where there for the taking but we ended up gifting them a goal.and if it was not for Bart all 3 points.....still struggling to create chances and very weak.up.front......next game should be another test..... Need the majority of players to step it up or we will lose to a very attack minded Reading team

Good stuff Silver.

We weren't good at all today but as ever, the commitment and application can not be questioned. We lack quality and decision making and creativity in the final third and have done for a long time.

We still should have won. Thommo missed a sitter and then so did Bod, and if either had gone in the game was over.

Malone gives the ball away and a great ball is put through and Hutch and Coops were lacking for pace against Moore (who is no Usain Bolt) and even then I'm pretty sure it was deflected past Bart.

It was a boring game. I'm almost certain that if fans were in the ground our home performances would be better. That's not an excuse for the way we've played, it's a fact that us, as fans, make a bigger difference than most. Today we would have made a difference. No question.

Bennett looks injured again but did very little. Jed was not great. Smith had nothing to attack except for the goal. Thommo was ok and deserves a run in the team. Leonard at right back shows how much we missed Mahlon going forward. Hutch, Cooper and Murray were our best players along with Bart. Woods ok. Williams ok but not the answer. I hope Parrott's performance was not a sign of things to come because he was way off the pace.

Our squad strength is poor. A lot of the players are not good enough for this level. Bod is just awful. What does Malone give us? He did nothing going forward or defensively. The rest of the bench was pony. Skalak is a wage thief and needs to be gone. A complete waste of money.

Having said that, we played badly and probably still should have won and we haven't lost. We are drawing too many games. We are ninth. We need to improve our attacking play sharpish and the number of injuries is showing our lack of depth.

More bulkshit from Harris. Don’t know what game he was watching but we should have buried them 3-0! Wanker!
“In the Championship you have to deny people opportunities and if that game is 0-0 at 60 minutes or 70 minutes I think we go on and win that. Wonder what the weather is like on his planet!?

Harris annoys me glad he's gone.

GR talked on the interview again about bits of quality winning games. It's been clear for ages the squad is league 1 and lacks pace. Add in the size and weaknesses in 'shallow' (sic) then the multiple injuries after 2 weeks rest and it's a mess. SO the quality isn't there and won't appear after more training. Needs ability to make a difference.

Why we get so many injuries and those we can't afford given the very few players (just about worthy of playing) is a mystery.

I got the impression that he knows he'll need to add in January if he can as the options so far that have made a difference are few and far between.

The negative tactics aren't helping and like many here, very fed up with this season esp the performances and squad.

"Then Molly made the most dreadful pass inside from the left which fell straight to one of their mid fielder's feet.". Shocking pass

Highlights here if anyone hasn't seen them, try not to dwell on the sitters............. Agree Bart did well with a few of those saves

We had two shots on target from 7 attempts, they had six from 14!. We didn't even force a corner. To win 3-0 you have to be dominant or be poxed with luck, we were neither.

Great cross for Smith, just where you'd want it, some great stops from Bart, Bod 😲
