Boris will be left wondering if it would have been better to keep him in the tent pissing out, rather than outside pissing in.

Only time will tell.

No 11 has been a headache for years: the backroom staff an ultra Remainer, left wing cabal that has tried to undermine successive Prime Ministers. Usually wit great success.

Getting rid of the SpAds there was an almost foregone certainty. The fact that Javid stood by them underlined his inner Remainer qualities.

A surprise, but not a surprise, if you know what I mean...

12.34pm update: Rishi Sunak confirmed as new Chancellor

Downing Street has wasted little time in confirming Rishi Sunak as the new Chancellor.

He has been chief secretary to the Treasury since last summer.

Mr Sunak was not even technically a member of the Cabinet and was just a minister with a right to attend.

His appointment as Chancellor is his first full Cabinet job.

The first occupant of Number 11 to go running every morning has decided to jog on....

Well, well.....
Maybe he wasn’t happy about Boris nicking all Labours policies, mansion tax, pension raids, printing money etc
They’ve even privatised one of the railway lines already!
It’s a funny old world Whisky

His advisors were the problem. Too many 'senior Treasury sources' briefing against No.10. After the May/Hammond conflict it's sensible to make sure that No.10 and No.11 are singing from the same hymn sheet.

He will be back though.
