In true Monkey style, he has dropped a couple of cynical acid wit bombs into the article, which have upset a few Anorak divs... :hehe:

Rod Liddle sums it up nicely in that piece 'this is Charlton, remember'.

"but at heart, the pursuit of promotion to their 'rightful' position in the top tier has also contributed to their downfall"... "rightful my arse".

Actually, It's a good article to read.
Indeed.

So, this Syrian has to show he’s got £17m at least to spunk on those no marks. The mind boggles.

It does raise the interesting point... why on earth get involved in football right now? Surely if you have millions to burn, spend it on your community!

Copied from a (long) post on page 264...
Christ, what a mess.

Charlton Stadium, The Valley. Southall and Heller argue that, according to the secret plans of the takeover, the arena will be demolished to make room for a residential complex.
The club's salaries are 680,000 pounds per month, then there are the taxes and insurance which are 250,000 pounds per month, the payment of credits means between 100 and 150,000 pounds per week. About 1.2, 1.3 million pounds are the monthly costs
- Matt Southall , former director, for GSP
Jonathan Heller shares the same pessimistic prediction: “They have to pay their salaries in March. The club does not have a stable financial profile. He needs money to stay solvent, and the fact that professional football won't play until April doesn't help at all. It's a disaster. There is a risk that Charlton will go into insolvency. If it's true, Tahnoon is now making the promised money!".

They started out as a park team and were just that all the way up until 1920 amazingly! Only turning professional that year.

Meanwhile Millwall had already created 35 years of genuine English football history at that point - in which time we became the only club to ever earn their nickname through football endeavour!

Looks like they may be going back to their roots!

The Syrian owner might want to sell the Anoraks...
:slap:

"He no longer owns the football club (Roland Duchâtelet). If the football club goes into administration he still owns the Valley and sparrows lane".

It is hard not to read that thread on CL and not conclude that most are them are very, very naive or deluded.

I said from the very start, no proper Manchester City level billionaire wanting a football club as a cool toy are going to buy Charlton Athletic over Newcastle United, Sunderland or Leeds United. It would not make any sense at all.

Yet, you still get comments like this... 'with an agreement to buy the freehold of The Valley and Sparrows Lane at a mutually agreed price within the next five years or when we reach the PL whichever is the sooner'.

I mean, Jesus wept...

I hate to break it to them, but even 'Scumwall' are a better investment than them lot, what with this regen and being a proper central London club!

Perhaps West Ham United fans can form a splinter club 'West Ham AFC' and pay rent to the Belgian to play at The Valley?

Good luck trying to find a Court that is open.
Well, that’s the thing... they are probably hoping they are, as the ex directors are hoping to void the takeover by challenging the fact that the Belgian agreed to sell The Valley to ESI without taking into consideration their charges against it to recover their £7m loans.

But as you say, good luck with that!

I do think that Charlton Athletic FC are in grave danger of dying from simply running out of time.

They keep believing that the former Belgian owner wouldn’t want them to go into administration or die because the money he is owed would be wiped out and it may take years to get PP on The Valley and Sparrow’s Lane... but, he may just be happy to see it as something to gift his family, could make them hundreds of millions in time. What do they say about revenge? Perhaps that’s how he feels.
